Erin McLaughlin's Styling Secrets from Style at Home magazine:

Many people are afraid of mixing and matching patterns. This vignette has an exotic, tribal vibe which is really hot this season.

A lot of different textures were also incorporated. Style at Home Editor Erin McLaughlin gave us some advice on how to do it with style!

Wallpaper:
This Farrow & Ball wallpaper has soft curved leaf design which playfully weaves the length of the wall without being distracting.

Rugs:
Beef-up a giant, neutral sisal by layering a patterned rug on top. Erin's rule of thumb is to leave a foot of sisal peeking out.

Books:
Layer piles of books in unexpected places like the top of a bench, tucked under a console.

Table Lamps:
This is an unconventional way to add pattern to a room.
Tip: Keep the lamp shades a solid colour (so it doesn't conflict with the patterned base). Or, take it up a notch by adding trim detail to the edge of the shade for a finishing touch

Baskets/Orbs/Pillows:
Mixing different textures together is another way to incorporate variety and visual interest; natural woven basket, wicker orbs and pillows in exotic prints on a rattan chair and under the bench.
