Hi Steven and Chris, After 17 years I decided to take down the wall between my living and dining room and build a fresh new space. I now have this huge space to fill and decorate and need some help! Other than a 42 inch TV, I'm starting from scratch. Any help you can give would be great. Thank you so much, Debbie
Tips:
You have a great space that has a lot of potential. Before getting this started you need to consider what you have. We definitely want to work with your floors and the moldings you currently have, but we are going to take it one step further. We added some wainscoting to visually connect your architectural features like the fireplace and the columns.
We always suggest using one piece as a jumping off point for the room; we opted for a ginger jar because of its fresh colours. When anyone is starting from scratch we encourage them to begin with a mood board (based on your jumping off point piece), which is what we are going to build for you today.
Find images that inspire you. Gather whatever you love, whether it is flowers, photos of rooms, fabrics...anything! We love this image as inspiration for your space.

We really encourage people to create a floorplan of the space. This way you can properly scale furniture to the room and not make any big purchases that just don't work. The easiest and most comprehensive site we have found is www.floorplanner.com - You can plug in your measurements and scale furniture pieces quite easily.
Attach fabric swatches for all fabrics you are considering using in your space - this will include fabric for throw pillows, drapery fabric for window coverings, upholstery fabric for any existing items that require re-upholstery or upholstery fabric samples for anticipated new furniture purchases.
One last tip when you get to window treatments: we really think that a roman blind - mounted outside of the window frame - will be the best option for you. It will uniform all of your windows and unlike drapes, there won't be any hazards around your fireplace. We love the look of this one for you.
