Question Hi Steven and Chris, My three siblings and I need your help in redoing our family bathroom. We have finally convinced our parents that we can handle renovating this 21 year old bathroom. My mother's only request is that the sink is in a vanity. We need your advice on how to take this bathroom from ugly to awesome! Thank you, The Train siblings

You are going to have to gut this space - between the tile and the wallpaper, this is going to be a difficult task, so we are glad to hear there are 4 of you tackling it!
Because you are tackling this yourselves, we would like to give you a few tips:
Know what you are capable of - there are certain things everyone can and can't do, so consider a general contractor and electrician.
Make a plan - don't just start swinging your hammers because you hate the pink tiles!
Do your homework!
We would really encourage you to put a pocket door in this space. It will really maximize your space and allow for the vanity that your mother wants.
Before Floor Plan: After Floor Plan:
We would really encourage you to put a pocket door in this space. It will really maximize your space and allow for the vanity that your mother wants.
We encourage you to choose finishes that are durable - because this is a family of 6, the space will see a lot of traffic, so durable finishes are key.
Vanity - here, we have chosen a vanity that is in a raw wood finish. This will only get better with age and ware.
Vanity from Restoration Hardware.
Faucets - as you can see, the faucets on this are polished chrome, which will accommodate high traffic without a ton of fingerprints and smudging.
Paint or wallpaper - we want to tell you about a few wall options that are great for high traffic bathrooms. Wallpaper - this vinyl paper has the look of grass cloth. It is durable and will add some texture and interest to the walls in this small space.
Wallpaper from Crown and Ontario Wallcovering & Décor Products.
Bathroom Paint (if wallpaper scares you) - there are many manufactures now that brand paint for bathrooms specifically. They claim to be mold and mildew resistant...and although we can't speak to their effectiveness, we think that it is worth the extra $10 a gallon.
We would like you to choose porcelain tile for the floor because it is quite dense and can stand up to high traffic.
When choosing the grout for you tile, we suggest that in this instance you match the colour to your tile colour. This will help you in the long run and always proves to be easier to keep clean.
We really love this mirror, because it is frameless and really appears to be a mirror as opposed to a storage vanity.
Mirror from Elte.
So, when all is said and done, here is what we envision for your new bathroom!
