Here are the answers to the Food Fight Quiz!

1. BOOSTS IMMUNE SYSTEM:  MISO SOUP or CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP

Carbohydrates increase the rate at which tryptophan enters the brain.  Oatmeal is also high in the amino acids tryptophan promoting the calming effects of serotonin production. The combination of Oatmeal being a complex carbohydrate, makes this calming amino acid more available to the brain.  Oatmeal is also a high source of b-vitamins, which are essential to help convert the amino acids into neurotransmitters, and help to reduce stress and supports the adrenal glands.

ANSWER:  SUNFLOWER SEEDS
Sunflower Seeds are high in Magnesium.  Magnesium deficiency is a significant contributor to migraines, thus supplementing with additional magnesium and/or adding more magnesium-rich foods to your diet may help prevent migraines.  Magnesium helps reduce pain, muscle tension, calms nerves, and also affects the production and regulation of serotonin.
 
 



4. LOWERS CHOLESTEROL:  AVOCADO or EGGS?

Avocados contain over 20 vitamins (including powerful antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E), minerals and phytonutrients contributing to great health.  The fats are primarily made up of the monounsaturated oleic acid and linoleic acid that help lower 'bad' cholesterol and raise 'good' cholesterol and helps to protect against heart disease. Not only that, but each avocado contains 10grams of fiber also helping to improve heart health and eliminate bad cholesterol!  It also packs in more than 3x the amount of potassium than bananas (helping to regulate blood pressure)

Your liver is one of the most important organs in your body and is our body's own in-house detoxification system.  However, our liver can become over loaded and could use a little help.  Lemons are the perfect helper! Lemons are a natural antiseptic, alkalizing, and extremely rich in antioxidant vitamin C.  Lemons cleanse the liver by aiding in the removal of toxins that can build up in the liver, the antioxidant vitamin C can help counteract free-radical damage that can result from the liver filtering toxins absorbed from the bloodstream. It also helps to produce more bile in the liver and is highly alkalizing helping to balance our body's pH.  All you need to do is squeeze half a lemon in 1 cup of room temperature water and drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (15min before eating or drinking anything else) and your liver will love you! 
 
 
6. ELIMINATES BAD BREATH:  CINNAMON OR MINT?

Cinnamon sticks are the perfect thing for getting rid of bad breath!  Not only does it leave your breath feeling fresh and get rid of odor, but it's anti-bacterial!  The most effective way to effective way to eliminate bad breath is to kill the sulfur producing bacteria that is causing the odor!  Bonus:  beside the fresh taste it leaves in your mouth, it's also calorie-free, sugar-free and balances blood sugar levels!  It's super easy to keep in your purse and carry on a date with you when you want to freshen up (it's much easier than trying to chomp on parsley!)  Keep in a mint container and pop a piece in your mouth!  PLUS, the sucking/chewing stimulate saliva flow which help to wash out the odor causing bacteria.
