Ask Steven and Chris: Incomplete Feeling
Question: Dear Steven and Chris
The sink in my kitchen is below a wall that has no window or cupboards. It leaves the room with an incomplete feeling. Can you please suggest some decorating ideas?
Thanks! KathrynSteven and Chris say:
- You have a great kitchen. This blank wall, however, is screaming for something that can be both beautiful and functional
- Hang a nice black and white photo with a black or dark brown frame to bring some contrast and warm up the space. You want to pick a photo that you can get lost in. This will be a great substitute for a window.
- By adding some shelves to the wall in the same dark brown/black as the frame, you increase your storage and display space. Put some decorative things on the upper shelves to which you don't need access very often. On the lower shelves, place items like special dishware or stemware that adds some sparkle and can be used on a regular basis.
