Ask Steven and Chris: Child Friendly Living Room

entry_divider.png entry_divider2.png
Question:

Hi Steven and Chris,
This year has been very exciting for us. We built this house and had a baby boy.  With the new baby, we didn't have time to do much decorating, but it is time! We would like to replace the furniture and address the window treatment. Our current paint colour is Woodstock Tan and it goes through the entire living space.

Thank you,
Pamela

Steven and Chris say:

  • Congratulations of your new baby boy!
  • When selecting your new seating, we recommend choosing leather, heavily patterned fabric or something that will wear well like an ultra suede. This will ensure that limited damage will be done to the pieces when inevitable accidents happen!

  • We LOVE this soft, bean-bag type chair in which children will love to lounge. They are light to lift and wash easily.

  • This piece can be a side table and double as a children's craft desk. It's fantastic that it is made for children, but doesn't look like kids furniture.

  • For those times when unexpected guests drop by, we recommend this chest that doubles as seating with a cushion to quickly stash away all of those toys

  • When decorating spaces that will be used by children, it is key to select pieces that can transition with them seamlessly as they grow.

  • Your coffee (and side) table should be in a stained wood or painted finish. This will allow for easy touch ups of scratches or stains.
