Just as women have foundation garments, so do men! A well fitting shirt and trousers are a solid foundation for a great look. The most important factor when buying men's clothing should always be fit: look for the shirt to sit nicely on the shoulders. From the shoulders, you can choose a more traditional fit (which is slightly larger) or a trendier slim cut or tapered shirt that fits closer to the body - consider your body type and comfort level when choosing the fit.
For pattern and colour, a good rule of thumb is to pair most classic stripes with black trousers to keep it classic, but anchor the look. A classic white shirt is always great with a suit and tie. For any patterns that aren't stripes - pair the shirt with a navy jacket and khaki trousers to keep it dressy, but not too stuffy.
TrousersKnow that straight leg, flat front trousers are the most universally flattering. Pleating on the front of the pants can dress up your look, but also add visual weight and can make you look fuller. Most trousers come in varying inseams, but often need to be hemmed - pants should have a slight break at the instep of the shoe.

A navy blazer is a classic and can be worn with anything! A great jacket to throw on over a pair of khakis or dark denim, it can also be worn with a pair of grey slacks for a more dressed up look. You can liven up the jacket and keep it current by pairing it with a gingham shirt and perforated leather belt.
