Leather Fashion Show

entry_divider.png entry_divider2.png
Moe Kelso (wardrobe provided by Vivian Shyu) was here to remind us that leather is back and it has only gotten sexier and more versatile!

Leather can be worn with everything from jeans to a little cocktail dress and we are seeing it in more new treatments than ever (washed leather, laser cut, ruffles and new colours)!

The innovation in leather has not been limited to how it looks, but more importantly how it feels! The expanding leather market has traded the traditionally hard and heavy horsehide to include the softer, treated leather of lamb, goat and yes, even pigs for a softer hand feel.

Suede shirt with navy pants and a side camel bag

Peggi is in a western style, camel suede shirt.  Suede is a type of leather made from the underside of the skin and is identified by its napped (raised) finish.  Though not as durable as traditional leather, it is perfect for more delicate uses in clothing and was first used to make gloves.

Paired with a pair of navy pants, this is a timeless combination that will never go out of style. Peggi's outfit was finished with a camel clog - very hot for the season (as seen on Chanel's runway for spring).

Where to get it:

Suede shirt from Zara $129.00
Leather bag from H&M $149.00

V-neck t-shirt over leather leggings

When thinking of wearing leggings or tights as pants - ensure that they are of a heavier fabrication - you don't want to look like you're missing a skirt or dress over them!  With that said, leather leggings are an easy and comfortable way to put together a rocker chic look.  We chose a more structured legging with leather paneling on the side, for comfort, over a full leather look.

A studded bag was thrown into the mix to add some visual interest to an otherwise very streamlined ensemble.

Final Words: Care

  • Most leather products do come pre-treated.  To ensure a long-life, spray your leather before wearing it.  If it does see rain, dry your leather and re-spray with a reputable protectant.
  • Never store your leather in plastic - it's natural and needs to breathe!
  • Be careful when applying lotion, perfume, or any oil-based products as they can cause staining and damage.
  • If you ever need your leather professionally cleaned, treated and protected, do some research and take it to a reputable pro!
