Deb Nelson takes on another room for Decor on a Dime - and goes dark for an amazing bedroom transformation.
Dramatic paint colour, huge change to entire room & it really felt transformed. Black/dark painted walls is a hot trend
The black paint I used on Michelle's bedroom walls is a colour I picked from an old Benjamin Moore paint deck, it's called Soapstone R-9994. It is no longer in the current fandeck, but if you go to a Benjamin Moore retailer they can make the colour for you, or give you a sample you can then colour match.
Furniture layout: moved the bed to center of room, covered metal bed frame with fabric to soften it
Used Michelle's amazing artwork (she had tons of these great old etchings), bought new frames to create focal point over the bed. The colour of the etchings also influenced the choice of linen colour fabric.
Two floor lamps on either side of the bed. Both were $9.99 at Value Village and were a great find but are 2 different lamps. Fantastic find!
I made the 2 lamps look more alike by using a little paint. I was able to change one to the preferred colour of the second lamp. Also used this painting technique to change the silver lids to this same antique bronze look.
Used the gorgeous trunk Michelle had as one bedside table (great storage too!)
Added an inexpensive table to the other side & cover with burlap to add texture
Black blind also looks great (and I think more expensive and richer looking than white but is the same price as the white blind).
I found this retro looking lamp in the basement, the shade was not working (a little too retro), so I covered it in black fabric with glue and tape around the edges. To do this: you lay the shade out on the fabric, trace the shade with a pencil, add 3 inches on either side and use spray adhesive, clothes pins to attach it on. I wrapped the edges around the shade and secured with a hot glue gun.
Filled in the other large wall with easy to make yourself artwork on a large canvas (she also had this)
