Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., advanced to the quarter-finals of the Portugal Open on Thursday, cruising past Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay to advance.

The ninth-ranked player in the world needed just over an hour to defeat Cuevas, winning the match 6-3, 6-2. He lost just 11 points on his serve, and five of those were double faults.

Raonic, seeded second in the tournament, will face the winner of the match between Poland’s Lukasz Kubot and Argentina’s Carlos Berlocq. He’s still looking for his first tour win on clay.

In the women’s draw, Bouchard was trying to reach her third semifinal this year but fell 6-4, 6-1 to two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia. Bouchard jumped on Kuznetsova early to take a 4-1 lead in the first set, but couldn’t keep it going, losing 11 of the next 12 games for the loss.

The 20-year-old Montreal native is still going strong after reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open in January, and will compete next in the Madrid Open starting Sunday.
