Eugenie Bouchard wins first match of 2016

Canada's Eugenie Bouchard won her first match of 2016 on Tuesday at the Shenzhen Open tennis tournament in China.

The No. 6 seed defeated unseeded Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 in a first-round match that lasted nearly two hours.

Bouchard will next face American Nicole Gibbs, who defeated Tereza Smitkova of Czech Republic 6-0, 6-2 in a meeting of unseeded players.

The tournament's top seed, Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, easily got past Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia, 6-4, 6-3.
