Trinidad and Tobago cruised in the opener of the T20 Caribbean on Thursday, defeating Canada by nine wickets.

Trinidad and Tobago held Canada to 110 for eight before posting 111-1 with nearly six overs to spare.

Adrian Barath put up several fours and sixes en route to pummelling Canada with 66 runs, with teammate Lendl Simmons adding 22 to finish off the match at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Geoff Barnett was the lead batsman for Canada with 37 runs in 32 balls. Zubin Surkari added 26 runs.

Canada reached 43-1 after 10 overs but added just 18 more runs in the next four overs.

Umar Bhatti helped the Canadians mount a bit of a rally, ending on 17 not out, but it wasn't nearly enough.

Canada was neutralized by the bowling of Dave Mohammed and the fielding of Dwayne Bravo, who finished with four catches.

Barath was named man of the match.

Canada faces Jamaica on Saturday, with the match streamed live on CBCSports.ca (3:40 p.m. ET).

There are eight teams vying for the T20 trophy, which will be handed out on July 31.
