The 151st running of the Queen's Plate takes place Sunday (CBC Sports, CBCSports.ca, 4:30 p.m. ET) at Toronto's Woodbine Racetrack, with Queen Elizabeth on hand for the festivities.

Malcolm Kelly breaks down the 13-horse field by post by position for the mile-and-a-quarter race for the 50 Guineas on the polytrack.

1. Vicar Street (D'Alimonte and Annecchini)

  • Trainer: Catherine Day Phillips
  • Jockey: Tyler Pizarro
  • Odds: 30-1

Synopsis: Awful post position for a horse some liked as a long shot. Vicar Street comes in without a victory, though placed twice and was third once in 2009. This year it's been a third in three starts. A very pretty horse with long, easy strides. Young jockey Pizarro is an up and comer. A maiden hasn't won since Scatter the Gold in 2000.

2. Who We Gunna Call (Castle Peak Farm and Construction)

  • Trainer: Tino Attard
  • Jockey: Gerry Olguin
  • Odds: 30-1

Synopsis: This colt did not race in 2009 and comes in without any stakes wins, though he did show on June 13 at a mile-and-an-eighth on the polytrack. Of four starts, three were in Florida, including his maiden breaker. There is some bloodlines here - dam Touch Dial won the Woodbine Oaks in 1999. Trainer Attard believes he has the distance in him. Will wear the blinkers.

3. D's Wando (D's Stable, Riviera Racing Stable, Yorktech Racing Stable)

  • Trainer: Ian Black
  • Jockey: Emma-Jayne Wilson (1 win- 2007)
  • Odds: 20-1

Synopsis: Sire is the wonderful Wando, winner of Canada's Triple Crown in 2003, and grandsire is Langfuhr, a top stud. Went to the blinkers last fall. D's Wando won twice as a two-year-old when he showed signs of being a late finisher, confirmed this season. Was a disappointing seventh at the Plate Trial. Trainer Ian Black is hoping for a slooooow pace. If Emma-Jayne Wilson was entered on a little red wagon, she'd still have to be reckoned with.

4. Dark Cloud Dancer (Sam-Son Farm)

  • Trainer: Mark Frostad (4 wins)
  • Jockey: Javier Castellano
  • Odds: 15-1

Synopsis: When your dam is Dancethruthedawn (Oaks and Plate winner in 2001), and your grandsire is Dance Smartly (Triple Crown winner in 1991), there's a lot expected of you. Was shut down as a two-year-old but has a win and two places this season. Finished second at nine furlongs (220 yards a furlong) on June 6 despite going five-wide. He's a stalker, finishing strong.

5. Big Red Mike (Terra Racing Stable)

  • Trainer: Nick Gonzalez
  • Jockey: Eurico Rosa da Silva (1 win - 2009)
  • Odds: 6-1

Synopsis: In the post parade for the Plate Trial, Big Red Mike tossed his jockey Rico da Silva, who climbed back on and ran him to victory. Gonzalez calls his colt "headstrong," and that's one way to put it. The trainer wants him to relax a bit to get the distance, but Big Red Mike naturally likes to run up front with the big boys and girls.

6. Smart Sky (C. Scott Abbott Racing Stable)

  • Trainer: Mike Doyle
  • Jockey: Chantal Sutherland
  • Odds: 30-1

Synopsis: After an up and down two-year-old campaign, has had a better time this year, breaking his maiden June 13 on the same day as the Plate Trial. Gave Mobilizer a run for it earlier this year. Conditioner Mike Doyle thinks the distance and the polytrack surface are a perfect combination for the colt. Last horse to win in its first stakes race was TJ's Lucky Moon eight years ago.

7. Ghost Fleet (Jim Dandy Stable)

  • Trainer: Sid Attard
  • Jockey: Richard Dos Ramos
  • Odds: 20-1

Synopsis: Ghost Fleet is under one of the most experienced jockeys on the circuit. This horse was a finalist for top juvenile at the Sovereign Awards last year, so he showed early promise. Second in the Queenston this season in his debut. Has the distance in him, and recent workouts have been strong. Conditioner Attard was second to Mark Casse in wins last year.

8. Giant's Tomb (Sam-Son Farm)

  • Trainer: Mark Frostad (4 wins)
  • Jockey: Mike Smith (1 win - 1997)
  • Odds: 12-1

Synopsis: Ran out five times as a two-year-old and five this year. Eight of those have been at a mile or better. This is one strong fella. Fourth in the Plate Trial after losing a lot of ground going wide. Will go to the blinkers, so he's not looking around like a tourist. Sire is the awesome Awesome Again. Frostad says he can be a tad too laid back.

9. Mobilizer (Stronach Stables)

  • Trainer: Roger Attfield (8 Plate wins)
  • Jockey: Jono Jones (1 win - 2008)
  • Odds: 7-2

Synopsis: Roger Attfield says Mobilizer is becoming a very professional colt. His father Motivator (2005 Epsom Derby winner) stands at the Royal Stud, (owned by Queen Elizabeth). Did not race as a juvenile so he didn't break his maiden until this spring by beating Smart Sky. Second in the Plate Trial after a sprint to the wire. Was getting a little hot on post parade because he was having too much fun with his pony. Once they took the distraction away, Mobilizer has been fine. Attfield doesn't want him to get caught up in the speed.

10. Roan Inish (Robert Costigan)

  • Trainer: Carolyn Costigan
  • Jockey: Davy Moran
  • Odds: 9-2

Synopsis: Fillies have a long history of success in this race. Roan Inish won the Woodbine Oaks and with an extra week to prepare this year she's in good shape. Was in season a week ago but hasn't affected her at all, says young trainer Carolyn Costigan, who calls her "gutsy." Loves to hook up in the stretch and let it all hang out. Has run just twice this year. Broke her maiden in 2009 early on Irish Derby day so the crowd won't bother her.

11. Hotep (Sam-Son Farm)

  • Trainer: Mark Frostad (4 Plate wins)
  • Jockey: Patrick Husbands (1 win - 2003)
  • Odds: 3-1

Synopsis: Jennifer Morrison's morning-line favourite is a full brother of last year's Plate winner Eye of the Leopard. By the great AP Indy and out of Eye of the Sphinx, the younger sibling has had six starts so far this season but still comes in on five weeks rest. Won the Wando Stakes on May 8 despite being "a bit flat." Was second in the Marine Stakes at a mile-and-a-16th. Unlike Leopard, Hotep has multiple gears including overdrive.

12. Mobthewarrior (Andrew Fredericks)

  • Trainer: Greg De Gannes
  • Jockey: Emile Ramsammy (2 wins — 1996, 2006)
  • Odds: 10-1

Synopsis: Son of Sovereign Award winner Mobil. This gelding won two starts as a two-year-old including the Frost King Stakes. This horse has distance in his blood lines. Third in the Plate Trial despite staying wide the whole way. Has earned 10 times what his owner paid for him as a yearling. Hoping for a sharp pace in the Plate. Will load last because he's a pain in the hind quarters in the gate. May get a lot of attention Sunday at the windows.

13. Moment of Majesty (Don Meehan, Curtis Joseph and Sue Leslie)

  • Trainer: Sue Leslie
  • Jockey: Robert Landry
  • Odds: 12-1

Synopsis: Ran an excellent Woodbine Oaks, headed by Roan Inish after a strong stretch run off the corner. Owned by former goaltender Curtis Joseph, agent Don Meehan and trainer Sue Leslie who saw enough to pay the $25,000 supplementary fee. Three weeks might be a little short rest-wise for this filly, but she's gone over a mile four times this year so the distance is not a problem.
