Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, who is close to being dealt to Philadelphia, is said to be taking a physical after agreeing to a contract extension with the Phillies, ESPN.com reported Tuesday.

A three-team deal that also includes the Seattle Mariners reportedly would net the Blue Jays three prospects — right-hander Kyle Drabek, outfielder Michael Taylor and catcher Travis d'Arnaud.

The Phillies were given a 72-hour window to work out a deal with the pitcher's agent, Greg Landry. An extension is required for Halladay to waive his right to veto a trade.

According to SI.com, the extension would be for three years and $60 million US, with two vesting options that could extend the deal through the 2015 season. It would not include the $15.75 million Halladay is owed in 2010.

Besides Halladay, the Phillies are slated to receive $6 million and three prospects from Seattle: Canadian pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont, outfielder Tyson Gillies of Langley, B.C., and right-hander Juan Ramirez.

The Mariners' haul would include Philadelphia left-hander Cliff Lee and perhaps more.

Pact includes son of ex-pitcher

Drabek is the son of former Cy Young Award winner Doug Drabek. He posted a 12-3 record and 3.19 earned-run average at A Clearwater and AA Reading last season.

The 21-year-old, whom Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro refused to include in a trade with Toronto prior to the July 31 non-waiver deadline, walked 50 and struck out 150 in 158 innings.

Taylor, 23, combined for a .327 batting average, 20 home runs and 84 runs batted in at Reading and AAA Lehigh Valley.

ESPN.com also is reporting the Blue Jays will flip Taylor to the Oakland Athletics for third-base prospect Brett Wallace, who was drafted by Toronto in 2005 but went to college and signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as a first-round pick in the 2008 draft.

D'Arnaud, 20, played 126 games at class-A Lakewood in 2009 and hit .255 with 13 homers and 71 RBIs.

The 32-year-old Halladay won 17 games last season, leading Toronto in innings pitched (239), strikeouts (208) and earned-run average (2.79). He also topped the American League with nine complete games and boasts a lifetime record of 148-76 with a 3.43 ERA.

The Denver native won the Cy Young Award as the league's top pitcher in 2003 and finished in the top five of voting on four other occasions.

Previous Doc trade attempt fails

It would be the biggest move by Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos since he took over from the fired J.P. Ricciardi in October.

Ricciardi attempted to trade Halladay to Philadelphia before the July 31 deadline, but his asking price of a handful of top prospects was apparently too high and the Phillies instead acquired Lee from Cleveland.

Talks with various teams recently picked up steam at baseball's winter meetings in Indianapolis, with Anthopoulos reportedly talking then of three- and four-team trades.

Lee quickly became the Phillies' ace and won seven games in 12 regular-season starts with Philadelphia. He went 4-0 in five post-season appearances, including 2-0 in the World Series, with 33 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings pitched for the reigning National League champions.

The 2008 AL Cy Young winner will earn $8 million next season and then be eligible for free agency.
