Canadian tennis player Aleksandra Wozniak moved on at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow on Tuesday, advancing after opponent Sara Errani withdrew with an injury.
Wozniak was leading 6-1 when the match was halted because of Errani's shoulder injury. The Canadian will await the winner of a match between Agnieszka Radwanska and Maria Kirilenko of Russia to determine her second round opponent.
Wozniak entered the week ranked 31st in the world. She has been as high as 21st in her career, achieved earlier this year.
The Blainville, Que., native has enjoyed a solid autumn, beating the likes of Alize Cornet, Kimiko Date Krumm and Caroline Wozniacki.
She lost to Wozniacki in a return match in the quarter-finals at Japan Women's Open in Osaka last week.
Russian Vera Zvonareva is the top seed at the Kremlin Cup, followed by Jelena Jankovic of Serbia and Radwanska.
The top three are battling for a spot among the world's best at next week's WTA championship in Doha, Qatar.
Jankovic downed Yaroslava Shvedova of Russia 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.
