The NHL's salary cap is growing yet again, though not by much.

The cap will increase by $100,000 US to $56.8 million for the 2009-10 season, deputy commissioner Bill Daly said on Friday.

The salary cap has risen each year since it was established four years ago. It began at $39 million.

One of the reasons for this year's increase is the NHL Player's Association's addition of a five per cent inflator, implemented as part of the collective bargaining agreement.

The agreement also stipulates a lower limit of $40.8 million and an adjusted midpoint of $48.8 million.
