Chez Reavie fired a final round 1-under 70 to win the Canadian Open Sunday at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ont.

Reavie, a PGA Tour rookie, took the lead through 36 holes and held on for his first career win by finishing at 17-under 267.

Reavie is the first Canadian Open rookie to win the event since Jerry Pate turned the trick in 1976

The 26-year-old finished three strokes ahead of Billy Mayfair (68), and four up on Sean O'Hair (68) and Steve Marino (70).

Mike Weir was the top Canadian, firing a final round 69 to finish in a tie for fifth place at 12-under 272.

"It just wasn't meant to be," said Weir, who missed two birdie putts from inside six feet.

Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., had the second-lowest score among Canadians. He shot an even-par 70 Sunday to finish at 1-under.

"I hit it well here, and I putted pretty well," said Taylor. "I think everything (went) pretty well."

Anthony Kim played alongside Reavie but struggled all afternoon and shot a 75 to finish in a tie for eighth place at 11-under 273.

Reavie had an early start to day, returning to Glen Abbey at 7:30 a.m. to finish his third round.

He sank a birdie on the 18th hole to take a one-shot lead over Kim heading to the final round.

Reavie never looked back after that. After bogeying two of his first three holes, Reavie sank birdies on the fourth and ninth holes.

Mayfair made a late run with three quick birdies but settled for par on the par-5 18th.

That left Reavie with a two-shot cushion on the final hole and he earned the win after rolling in a 12-footer for birdie.
