Packers' Robinson off to jail

Last Updated: Wednesday, October 4, 2006 | 10:25 PM ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Koren Robinson was sentenced Wednesday to 90 days in jail for violating probation.

He must comply with the sentence by March 1, 2007.

"I'd make it real clear to you that there is no waffle in that," Judge Robert McSeveney told Robinson at Wednesday's hearing.

Robinson, 26, was disciplined because he neglected to inform a suburban Seattle probation office of his change of address and change in employment status when he signed with Green Bay.

"You have other issues going on in other states," McSeveney said.

Robinson has a history of alcohol-related problems, dating back to disorderly conduct charges as a sophomore with the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 1, 2003.

He also was suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy in 2004, then charged with drunken driving in 2005.

Robinson pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and received a five-year suspended sentence with probation.

Robinson was let go by the Seahawks and spent a month in a rehab centre before signing with the Minnesota Vikings, only to be arrested Aug. 22 as he sped back to Minnesota's Mankato training camp in time to beat curfew.

Robinson reportedly was apprehended following a 14-kilometre police chase at 70 km/h over the limit and registered an illegal blood-alcohol level of 0.11 per cent.

The Pro Bowler was released by the Vikings four days later and picked up by the Packers on Sept. 11.

"There are certainly numerous violations," McSeveney said.

Robinson has played three games for Green Bay this season, hauling in three passes for 47 yards and returning 10 kickoffs for 213 yards.

He has totalled 238 receptions for 3,561 yards and 13 touchdowns in 74 games (57 starts) since being drafted ninth overall in the 2001 NFL draft.

Robinson was selected out of North Carolina State, where he decided to forgo his final two seasons of college eligibility and turn pro.
