Eskimos re-sign top receiver Tucker

Last Updated: Thursday, February 16, 2006 | 6:03 PM ET

Jason Tucker will continue to catch many passes for the Edmonton Eskimos.

The Grey Cup champions re-signed all-star Tucker on Thursday, taking the free agent-eligible wide-out off the market.

In 2005, Tucker caught 89 passes for 1,411 yards and 11 touchdowns, and was named a CFL all-star.

The six-foot-two, 180-pound San Francisco native continued his fine play in a semifinal win over Calgary and a triumph over B.C. in the West final. Tucker then hauled in five passes for 46 yards and a key touchdown in overtime as the Eskimos downed Montreal for the Grey Cup in November.

The four-year CFL veteran also won Cups with Edmonton in 2002 and 2003.

Eskimo head coach Danny Maciocia noted on the team's website that having Jason return was a priority for the Eskimos because he's an outstanding player who delivers in key situations in big games.

Edmonton also re-signed non-import defensive lineman Randy Spencer on Thursday, after giving veteran defensive back Malcolm Frank a new deal on Wednesday. Frank has long been considered one of the league's premier cover-men.
