The Montreal Alouettes locked up Damon Duval on Wednesday, signing the rookie kicker to a one-year contract extension.

The deal also includes an option year.

"I'm thrilled to continue my association with a winning team and a first-class organization," the 26-year-old Duval said. "We came very close to our goal in 2005 and I'm hoping to help the team go all the way this coming season."

The American-born kicker led the CFL in scoring last season with 191 points. Duval connected on 38 of 52 field-goal attempts – including a 27-yarder to force overtime in the Grey Cup in November – and posted a 44.6-yard punting average.

Duval turned down invitations from two NFL clubs in order to stay on with Montreal.

"Damon is a young kicker with a powerful leg who did very well in his first season," said Alouettes general manager Jim Popp. "We expect even more from him now that he has gained some valuable experience. The fact that he received offers from the NFL says a lot of his potential."
