Alomar will be used primarily as the team's backup behind Dioner Navarro.
The 39-year-old Alomar spent the 2005 season with Texas, but appeared in only 46 games due to injury. He sported a .273 batting average with no homers and 14 RBIs and did not throw out any of the 17 opposing base stealers.
In his lengthy career, Alomar is a lifetime .273 hitter with 111 home runs and 571 RBIs, while playing with San Diego, Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox, Colorado and Texas.
Alomar, a 16-year veteran, had his best season in 1997 when he batted .324 with 21 homers and 83 RBIs. The brother of perennial all-star second baseman Robbie, Alomar won the AL Rookie of the Year Award and Gold Glove in 1990.
A native of Salinas, Puerto Rico, Alomar also appeared in the post-season six times, including two trips to the World Series with the Indians, and is a six- time all-star.
