Travis Wight of Fannystelle, Man., Brent Shepheard of Shawnigan Lake, B.C., and American players Bret Tyler and Rob Bellamy were issued summonses charging them with criminal trespassing, a misdemeanour.
The four students and two other Maine hockey players – Mike Hamilton of Victoria and Wes Clark of Oakville, Ont., – face charges in connection to an incident this past Sunday that police say involved a dispute over Hamilton's ex-girlfriend.
The 21-year-old victim was released from Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after receiving stitches over his left eye. He later reported the incident to police, and Hamilton and Clark were arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
According to police, Hamilton went to the apartment building of the victim to confront the man. After the two exchanged words, Hamilton allegedly assaulted the victim and as the fight ensued, Clark allegedly punched and kicked the man.
Hamilton and Clark have been charged with assault and aggravated criminal mischief for allegedly beating the student.
They have also been suspended indefinitely from the team.
Wight, Shepheard, Tyler and Bellamy were given one-game suspensions.
All six hockey players involved in the incident are scheduled to appear Dec. 23 in Bangor District Court.
