Goren broke a 2-2 tie at 3:47 of the third period after tipping a Jarkko Ruutu shot past goaltender Marty Turco as the Canucks defeated the Dallas Stars 5-2.
It was a busy night for Goren. Not only did he earn his first goal as a Canuck but he also got into a first-period fight with defenceman Phillippe Boucher.
"It's a lot of fun to get your first one in a game like that where we battled pretty hard most of the game," said Goren.

"We had a five-minute lapse in the second period where we weren't doing the things we wanted to do. We got back to doing the things we were supposed to do and it was a great outcome."
The Canucks (4-1-1) got power-play goals from Daniel Sedin, Sami Salo and Todd Bertuzzi. Richard Park also scored for Vancouver.
While it wasn't pretty, Bertuzzi's goal at 14:31 of the third period brought the capacity crowd of 18,630 to its feet.
Winger Jere Lehtinen scored two goals in the second period for Dallas. The Stars (4-2-0) were badly outshot (35-20) by the Canucks and only the terrific goaltending of Turco kept the scored tied into the third period.
Like most of the NHL games to this point, both teams went to the penalty box often. The first period alone had both teams combining for 13 penalties. The Canucks took advantage of their power plays in the first period, scoring two goals in a span of 29 seconds to jump out to quick 2-0 lead.
"The penalties we took, some undisciplined, there's really no excuse," said Turco, who was denied the chance to earn his 100th career victory.
"For me, it doesn't matter if we have five guys on the ice or just one, I'm still trying to try to stop the puck. It was a little more work, it's no big deal.
"It was a frustrating feeling, the way it happened in the first."
Turco's best period was clearly the second.
He made a great pad save on defenceman Mattias Ohlund during a Canucks power play, then prevented a goal with his stick on a Matt Cooke shot that appeared headed to the open corner and robbed Goren on a breakaway.
Sedin got Vancouver the early lead when he banged in a rebound past Turco on a two-man advantage at 5:47 of the opening period.
Salo increased the Canucks' lead to 2-0 just 29 seconds later when he blasted a shot through a maze of players that beat Turco.
Lehtinen single-handedly brought the Stars back as he took a pass from Mike Modano and beat Canucks goaltender Alex Auld with a shot to the short side just five minutes into the second period.
He then tied the score at 8:35 when he floated a long shot that got past Auld through the five-hole.
