Canadian diver Philippe Comtois is withdrawing from next month's world aquatics championships because he does not want to compete with a teammate who allegedly had sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Comtois was slated to compete with Arturo Miranda of Pointe-Claire, Que., in the synchronized three-metre event at the July 17-31 event in Montreal.

Miranda was issued a six-month suspension by Diving Canada in March for bringing "the sport of diving into disrepute" after a fellow diver complained Miranda had sex with her in a hotel room last year.

"After thinking about it long and hard and consulting my family, I have come to the conclusion I can't dive with Arturo in Montreal," Comtois said in a statement issued Wednesday.

"Given the situation, I don't see how I could enjoy the experience ... It's a question of integrity and principle that is backed up by the presence of my daughter and my wife, who is expecting a second child."

Comtois said he would be willing to compete in Montreal if he could matched up with another diver.

Miranda is still expected to compete at the championships, pending an appeal of his ban.
