After spending a season playing in his native Sweden, Colorado Avalanche sniper Peter Forsberg is eager to return to the NHL once the lockout ends.

Like a lot of NHL players during the lockout, Forsberg played in Europe this past season, skating with Swedish Elite League club MoDo, coached by his father Kent.

Even though he'll become an unrestricted free agent once the lockout ends, the 31-year-old says he wants to stay in Colorado.

"I've always had a good time playing (in Denver) and I've always had a good team," Forsberg is quoted Friday's edition of the Rocky Mountain News. "There's a lot of things that have to work out, but I've always liked it here in Colorado. Everything's got to be worked out. I wouldn't have any problem coming back."

Forsberg is currently undergoing rehabilitation for dislocated bones in his left hand, an injury he suffered while playing for MoDo in January.

Named the NHL's MVP for the 2002-03 season, he scored 13 goals and added 26 assists in 33 games for MoDo.

In nine NHL seasons, Forsberg has scored 216 goals and recorded 525 assists in 580 regular season games. He helped the Avalanche to Stanley Cup wins in 1996 and 2001.

Forsberg played four seasons for MoDo before joining the now-defunct Quebec Nordiques in 1995 following the last NHL lockout.
