Cernota's sled crashed during a practice run and catapulted off the course. Stefan Grandi, who was riding with Cernota, was seriously injured.
Cernota served as a brakewoman for Cathleen Martini at last month's world championships on the same course. They placed fourth.
Cernota was 24 years old.
