Carlos Delgado, Vernon Wells and Jose Vidro, three players for Canadian-based ballclubs, were awarded Silver Slugger awards Wednesday.

The honour is given annually to each of the top offensive players in the American and National Leagues.

Delgado and Wells, both of the Toronto Blue Jays, were honoured in the AL. Vidro was the lone winner from the Montreal Expos in the NL.

Wellls, an outfielder, won his first Silver Slugger with a breakout second season in which he posted a .317 average with 33 home runs and 117 RBIs. He also broke a Blue Jays record with 215 base hits.

Delgado took home his third career Silver Slugger. The Jays first baseman also won in 1999 and 2000.

Delgado smacked 42 homers this season and broke a franchise record by knocking in a league-best 145 runs. He finished with a .302 average on the year.

Vidro, like Wells, was also a first time recipient. He finished the 2003 campaign with a .310 average, 15 homers, 65 RBIs and 77 runs.

Managers and coaches select the Silver Slugger winners. They are not permitted to vote for their own players.

A combination of offensive statistics are used to selection criteria, including batting average, home runs, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
