The Houston Rockets have suspended forward Eddie Griffin indefinitely for failure to show up at practice before Thursday's pre-season game against the Sacramento Kings.

The punishment comes on the heels of another incident in which Griffin missed a team flight to Sacramento on Monday.

The 6-foot-10 forward told the Houston Chronicle that he missed the team flight Monday and didn't join the team Tuesday because of "personal, family problems."

Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said Griffin would remain away from the squad until the issue is resolved.

It's not the first time Griffin has run into trouble.

In April, he was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

He was later released after posting $500 US bond.

The arrest came after Griffin was stopped for speeding.

His hearing is scheduled for later this month.

The Rockets acquired Griffin from the New Jersey Nets on the night of the 2001 NBA Draft for the draft rights to Richard Jefferson, Jason Collins and Brandon Armstrong.

The seventh-overall pick, Griffin averaged 8.6 points and 6.0 rebounds over 77 games for Houston last season.

Griffin averaged 17.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.4 blocks in a one-year tenure at Seton Hall.

In his short stay at college, Griffin became the first player in school history to be named Big East Conference rookie of the year.
