Valeri Bure might be plying his trade with another team next season.

In what appears to be a cost-cutting move, the St. Louis Blues have placed the winger on waivers.

Bure was acquired in a trade deadline deal from Florida for defenceman Mike Van Ryn, but he failed to give the team that extra offensive boast it was looking for during the playoffs, registering just two assists in six games.

Under the terms for the trade, the Blues are required to pay at least half of his $3.1 million salary.

If Bure scored more than 80 points during the regular season, the Blues would be required to pay for the entire salary.

According to both the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and South Florida Sun, the Panthers might be interested in picked Bure back up in an effort to add depth to their lineup.

If the Panthers claimed him off waivers, the Blues would get a 2004 conditional draft pick in return. If he goes unclaimed, Bure would remain Blues' property and the team would probably try to trade him.

Bure, the younger brother of superstar Pavel Bure, was considered one of the up and coming stars in the NHL a couple of years ago, when he scored 35 goals with Calgary back in 1999-2000, but he has run into injury troubles over the past two seasons that have sidelined him for a total of 82 games.
