Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Phil Jackson, Jerry West, John Wooden and Jack Nicholson were some of the notable faces in the crowd in the church for the funeral Mass.
"I must tell you just looking at the faces in the crowd and how he brought these people together, that will be his legacy," West said in his eulogy.
Fans of Hearn also flocked to STAPLES Center to pay tribute to his legendary career on Friday. Guests were able to visit Hearn's broadcast position, complete with his headphones, game notes and other personal items, where he provided Lakers fans his play-by-play calls.
Hearn, who was 85, died after suffering a serious head injury last Friday night when he fell in the backyard of his San Fernando Valley home.
The Lakers' play-by-play man for 42 years, Hearn called a record 3,338 consecutive Lakers games over 36 years, before his streak ended last season when he underwent open-heart surgery on December 20. His return to the booth was delayed after he broke his left hip on February 17. Paul Sunderland worked 56 games in his absence.
Hearn, who is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and the American Sportscasters Hall of Fame, was able to return to the Lakers in time to broadcast the team's run to its third consecutive NBA championship.
