Darcy Tucker won't be back to play the Ottawa Senators, and might not make it back into the lineup at all, even if his Toronto Maple Leafs advance further in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Tucker was injured after he was checked into the boards from behind by the Senators' Daniel Alfredsson Friday night and the initial diagnosis was that he was out for the season.

"I wouldn't say I'm done for the playoffs," a hopeful Tucker, his left arm in a sling, told Hockey Night in Canada.

"I have a broken bone in my shoulder blade and a dislocated shoulder, but I'd never say never."

Tucker did concede, however, that the Leafs would have to at least go deep into the next round if he was to return.

The Senators won the game 4-2 and took a three-games-to-two series lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal. Seconds after making the unpenalized hit, Alfredsson went on to score the game-winner.

Meanwhile, the National Hockey League has decided not to levy a suspension for the hit on Alfredsson.

"Yes and no," was Tucker's response when asked if he was surprised that the NHL wouldn't be taking further action.

"I think given the fact that there was no penalty call, lead me to believe they (the NHL) would examine it -- and the replay that's the defining factor that showed it was a hit from behind.

"But that's the way things are going right now."

The Leafs are already missing captain Mats Sundin, forward Mikael Renberg and defencemen Jyrki Lumme, Karel Pilar and Dmitry Yushkevich.
