Adam Foote of the Colorado Avalanche was suspended two games without pay by the NHL on Monday.

The veteran defenceman was ordered to sit out after cross-checking Phoenix Coyotes centre Daymond Langkow.

The incident occurred with 4:12 left in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Coyotes, but wound up overshadowed by the meltdown of Patrick Roy, who was ejected for tossing his stick and arguing with referee Dan Marouelli after failing to stop rookie Krys Kolanos on a penalty shot.

Foote will miss games on Monday against the Nashville Predators and Wednesday against the Atlanta Thrashers.

He will forfeit $41,649 US of his $4.1 million US salary.

Foote is eligible to return for Friday's game at Dallas.
