Boerigter, 23, signed a seven-year contract with the Chiefs, thus severing his 21-month association with the Calgary Stampeders.
Financial terms were not disclosed, save for a signing bonus of $175,000 US.
"The money issue is definitely a big issue," Boerigter said. "It's definitely a testament of how much they want you."

"He's raw, but I think he's equivalent to a third or fourth-round draft choice," Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil said of Boerigter, a native of Sioux Center, Iowa.
"My philosophy is that whenever you can build your roster from the bottom up, you do it. He'll be a solid candidate to upgrade the quality of receiver we're going to bring to training camp."
Kansas City's receiving corps is currently comprised of Dante Hall, Reggie Jones, Eddie Kennison, Dave Klemic, Marvin Minnis, Sylvester Morris and Terrill Shaw.
Fellow wideouts Derrick Alexander and Larry Parker were placed on the unprotected list for the upcoming Houston Texans expansion draft.
"I just feel so much more confident about my abilities playing at the next level," Boerigter said. "They need some help and I think I can bring a lot to their table."
Boerigter enjoyed a splendid second season with the Stampeders, hauling in 48 passes for 931 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He capped off the campaign with a 68-yard TD catch in Calgary's 27-19 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 89th Grey Cup, its second CFL championship in four years.
As a rookie, Boerigter caught 63 passes for 1,032 yards and eight TDs after signing with the Stampeders out of Nebraska's Hastings College on May 8, 2000.
