Washington Wizards guard Richard Hamilton, who has helped take the scoring load off Michael Jordan and contributed greatly to the team's nine-game winning streak, was placed on the injured list with a pulled groin.

Hamilton pulled his right groin in the first quarter of Friday's 93-75 win over the Orlando Magic. He did not play the following night when Washington defeated the New York Knicks, 87-86. The Wizards are trying to win 10 games in a row for the first time in franchise history when they visit the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday.

The 6-6 Hamilton was examined on Monday by team physician Dr. Steve Haas, who determined a course of treatment. Hamilton has developed into a viable No. 2 offensive option for the Wizards and is averaging 19.8 points per contest, second on the team to Jordan's 23.1 points.

To take Hamilton's place on the roster, guard Courtney Alexander was activated from the injured list. Alexander had a contusion of the left fibula and a left ankle sprain and is averaging 5.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 15 games.
