Kekuta Manneh and Camilo scored three minutes apart to give the Vancouver Whitecaps a dramatic come-from-behind 2-2 tie with FC Dallas in MLS action Saturday.
Camilo drew the Whitecaps in the 75th minute as he put in a Manneh pass off Dallas defender Jair Benitez. Although the ball went in off a Dallas player, the goal was still credited to Camilo.
The Whitecaps rallied from a 2-0 early second-half deficit.
Manneh, 18, who had subbed in during the 54th minute for Jun Marques Davidson, pulled the Caps within one as he put in Tommy Heinemann's low header to him off Camilo's rebound. Heinemann's assist came only two minutes after he subbed into the game for Daigo Kobayashi.
Matt Hedges was credited with a goal for Dallas while the visitors also capitalized on a Vancouver own goal. Brazilian midfielder Michel helped set up both Dallas goals.
League-leading Dallas (7-1-2) remained unbeaten in six games. The Whitecaps (2-3-3) remained unbeaten in three games at home, but have gone six games overall without a win.
The Whitecaps were looking to avenge a 2-0 road loss to Dallas last weekend. The hosts were also looking to display more discipline after a loss by the same score the last time the two clubs played here, in August 2012, when nine yellow cards — six to Vancouver and three to Dallas — were handed out.
Vancouver striker Darren Mattocks made his first MLS start since March 30 against Chivas USA in Los Angeles. Mattocks had an excellent scoring chance around the four-minute mark as the ball bounced to him in the side of the box off teammate Nigel Reo-Coker. But Mattocks did not put the ball up and sliding Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez got his left foot on it.
Moments later, Dallas received a scare as Fernandez was hurt in a collision with Vancouver's Brad Rusin on a corner kick. Fernandez landed on his feet after both went up for the ball, but the Dallas goalkeeper then dropped to the ground.
Dallas took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute as a Michel corner kick went in off Whitecaps defender Andy O'Brien.
Mattocks had another chance in the 17th minute as Kobayashi's through ball sent him in on goal with a defender pressuring. But Mattocks mis-kicked the ball and got little on it.
The Jamaican striker had two more chances before the first half ended. But on both occasions, which occurred moments apart, he could not connect while trying to run on to passes from Reo-Coker.
Hedges put Dallas ahead 2-0 in the 47th minute as volleyed the ball past Vancouver goalkeeper Joe Cannon from near the goal-line. The play began with a Michel free kick from the sideline near midfield
Blas Perez headed the ball from distance over Vancouver defenders and Hedges slipped in behind and volleyed it in.
The Whitecaps had a chance to pull within one a minute later, but Mattocks hit the far post after taking a through ball from Gershon Koffie and eluding Fernandez.
Three minutes after Camilo's goal, Dallas was reduced to 10 men as defender Jackson was ejected for backhand slap to Vancouver defender Alain Rochat's face during a challenge. The Whitecaps had a number of chances to take the lead, but could not beat Fernandez.
