News that almost 100 English FA players missed drug tests has cast a cloud over stadiums such as Anfield. (Dave Thompson/Associated Press) Almost 100 players in English soccer have missed out-of-competition drug tests and two lower-tier clubs have been fined by the Football Association for failing to accurately report their whereabouts.
The Sunday Times published figures in an FA report that 96 players missed one test, and two others missed two tests. Queens Park Rangers was fined $9,000 US and Bradford $1,500 for not supplying accurate details of players' schedules.
The report said 13 more clubs were close to being fined after receiving two warnings about not revealing required information.
Players who miss three tests can be suspended for up to a year.
