Toronto FC's Dwayne De Rosario was named to the MLS Best XI on Monday.

He became the first Toronto FC player in its three-year history to be named to the squad.

"It's a huge honour to be selected, and even more special this time around because I'm back home," the midfielder said in a release.

"I know I have a lot of young fans, and anytime I get recognized, I hope they use that as motivation to follow their dream of becoming a professional soccer player."

The annual MLS award recognizes the top players at each individual position. One goalkeeper is picked, along with three defenders, five midfielders, and two forwards.

It's De Rosario's fourth appearance on the list, and he became the first player in MLS history to be named to the team with three different clubs.

De Rosario, 31, from Scarborough, Ont., led the team in goals this season (11) and won the team's MVP award.
