Toronto FC said Wednesday that injured veteran midfielder Carl Robinson will see a specialist and that his playing status for the rest of the Major League Soccer season still remains in question.

Robinson, who turns 33 on Oct. 13, suffered a fractured cheekbone in a collision with one of three Ivory Coast trialists during morning practice in Oakville, Ont., on Tuesday.

A diagnosis from the specialist is expected late Wednesday or Thursday, the MLS club said in a media release.

CBCSports.ca reported late Tuesday evening that the injury would sideline Robinson for the rest of the regular season.

Toronto takes on the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 4 p.m. ET).

It is considered a must-win for Toronto FC, who trail the New England Revolution by three points for the eighth and final playoff berth with three matches to play.

Missing from Toronto FC's lineup will be fellow midfielder Amado Guevara, currently on international duty with Honduras.

Robinson has two assists in 21 matches for Toronto FC this season, his third in MLS.

With Robinson out, Pablo Vitti or rookie Amadou Sanyang seem the likeliest candidates to replace him in the lineup, but the possibility exists that Adrian Serioux could move up from centre back to midfield.
