Toronto FC has lost veteran midfielder Carl Robinson for the remainder of the season due to injury, CBCSports.ca has learned.

Robinson, who turns 33 on Oct. 13, suffered a fractured cheekbone in a collision with one of three Ivory Coast trialists during morning practice in Oakville, Ont., on Tuesday.

The loss of Robinson is a big blow for Toronto, as the Welshman has two assists in 21 matches for Toronto FC this season, his third in MLS.

With Robinson out for the season, Pablo Vitti or rookie Amadou Sanyang seem the likeliest candidates to replace him in the lineup, but the possibility exists that Adrian Serioux could move up from centre back to midfield.

Toronto hosts the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 4 p.m. ET).

It is considered a must-win for Toronto FC, who trail the New England Revolution by three points for the eighth and final playoff berth with three matches to play.

Aside from Robinson, Toronto FC will also be missing midfielder Amado Guevara, currently on international duty with Honduras.
