Jozy Altidore was officially welcomed by Hull on Thursday after being loaned to the English Premier League club.

Altidore, 19, will be officially part of the team if a work permit is granted at a hearing on Monday. Hull has an option at the end of the season to pick up the contract of the American, who is coming off a mixed experience playing in Spain.

"I'm very excited at the prospect," said Altidore. "Hull is a good club, up-and-coming, and to have the opportunity of playing in the Premier League is a great thing. It is going to take a little while to get used to, but hopefully, it is going to be a success."

Altidore signed with Villareal in Spain in late 2008 but played sparingly and suffered a foot injury.

Before heading to Spain, the forward scored 15 goals and five assists in 37 games for the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer.

The Boca Raton, Fla., native scored four goals for the United States at the under-20 World Cup held in Canada in 2007.

More recently, he scored as the Americans shocked Spain 2-0 en route to a surprising second-place finish at the Confederations Cup in South Africa in June.

Hull manager Phil Brown said he hoped Altidore could progress and help provide offence for the club, which narrowly avoided relegation last season.

The club visits Chelsea in the season opener on Aug. 15.

Like a growing number of athletes, Altidore took to Twitter earlier in the week to break the news of the Hull deal.

Hull also announced the signing of 20-year-old Nigeria midfielder Seyi Olofinjana for $5 million US from Stoke on a four-year contract.
