Roberto Brown's 51st-minute strike ignited a four-goal second-half outburst as the Montreal Impact routed the Austin Aztex 4-0 on Sunday, giving Marc Dos Santos his first win as interim head coach.

Brown, Joey Gjertsen and Tony Donatelli scored 11 minutes apart early in the second half for the Impact (1-3-2), while Simon Gatti added some insurance in the 89th minute. It's the first time since 1998 that Montreal has scored four goals in one half.

"It feels good because, as a team, we needed a win," said Dos Santos, who was handed the coaching job earlier this week following the firing of John Limniatis.

"At halftime, I told them to stay patient and that goals were going to come. We have a fantastic group and I'm very happy for the players."

Brown opened the scoring. Following a cross from Stephen deRoux, Brown took advantage of a partly blocked ball by Aztex goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo, scoring his first goal of the season into an empty net.

The Impact doubled their lead at the 57th minute. DeRoux weaved his way through the Austin defence on the left side and made a pass to Brown, who finally relayed it to Gjertsen.

The midfielder scored is second goal of the season with a point-blank shot that beat the goalkeeper just inside the post.

Donatelli made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute. Following a poorly cleared ball from the Aztex defence, Donatelli drove a high left-footed cannon into the net from about 20 metres out.
