The Los Angeles Galaxy trimmed their pre-season roster to 27 by waiving five players Wednesday, including last season's top goalkeeper Steve Cronin.

Defenders Brandon McDonald, Mike Randolph and Troy Roberts, and midfielder Ely Allen also were waived.

Cronin made a career-high 22 starts last MLS season, compiling a 6-9-6 record with a 2.05 goals-against average.

But he missed the final two months of the season because of a fractured right hand.

Roberts played 61 times for the Galaxy, including a career-high 17 games last season.

Randolph appeared in 39 games over the past two seasons with the Galaxy, totalling four assists.

Allen and McDonald were drafted by Los Angeles last season, and started strongly before injuries derailed their seasons.

The Galaxy have until Monday to reduce the roster to 24 players.

Los Angeles opens the season March 22 at home against DC United.
