The Montreal Impact welcomed back a familiar face on Wednesday, signing Antiguan striker Peter Byers to a two-year contract.

Financial terms were not released by the United Soccer Leagues club.

Byers, 24, scored three goals in seven regular season games after joining the Impact last August but then left the club in the off-season for the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer.

Byers, who also scored in the Impact's 4-1 win over Joe Public FC in the CONCACAF Champions League in October, recently attended the Earthquakes' training camp.

He could not reach an agreement with the MLS club, paving the way for his return to Montreal.

"We are very happy to have him back with us," said Impact general manager Nick De Santis. "We kept in touch during his stay in San Jose. As soon as we knew that it had not worked out for him there, we immediately resumed negotiations."

"Byers is a player who integrated himself very well to the team. We expect him to contribute even more offensively."

Byers will be eligible to play in the Impact's Champions League quarter-final first leg on Feb. 25 at Montreal's Olympic Stadium against Mexican side Santos Laguna (CBC Bold, CBCSports.ca, 8 p.m. ET).
