Midfielder Christian Gomez and seldom-used goalkeeper Mike Grazcyk were acquired Monday by D.C. United from the Colorado Rapids for defender Ivan Guerrero.

It marks the second stint with United for Gomez, who helped them win the MLS Cup in 2004 and earned Major League Soccer most valuable player honours in 2006.

"He brings unique qualities to our team and he understands the culture of our club," United president Kevin Payne said. "We believe he makes us better able to, again, compete for the MLS Cup."

Gomez, 34, posted three goals and six assists in 20 matches with Colorado last season, his fifth in MLS.

Prior to that, he had 39 goals and 29 assists in 97 matches with United, who originally signed him as a discovery player on Aug. 14, 2004.

Guerrero, 31, split last season between the San Jose Earthquakes and Rapids, finishing with one goal and four assists in 27 matches.

The Honduran international has totalled four goals and 20 assists in 101 matches over four MLS seasons with the Chicago Fire, Earthquakes and Rapids.
