Swedish midfielder Freddie Ljungberg and West Ham agreed on Wednesday to part ways after just one season of a four-year contract agreement.
Ljungberg scored 46 goals in nine years with Arsenal but managed just two in his lone season with West Ham as he battled injuries.
"I gave my all at West Ham and enjoyed my time there but the decision is the best for the both of us," said Ljungberg. "Now I will take my time to consider my football future."
While Ljungberg, 31, could retire, he'll likely receive offers in Europe and possibly with Major League Soccer in North America. West Ham played against the MLS all-stars in Toronto in July, but Ljungberg was not in the lineup.
He shouldn't have any international obligations after announcing shortly after Euro 2008 that he was retiring from the Swedish national team. Ljungberg scored 14 goals in 75 appearances with Sweden.
Ljungberg will receive a buyout of about $12 million Cdn, according to British reports.
