Defender Olivier Tebily, left, has parted ways with Toronto FC. (Aaron Harris/Canadian Press)Toronto FC waived defender Olivier Tebily on Thursday.
Tebily, 32, spent six seasons with English club Birmingham City before signing with Toronto as a free agent in April.
The Ivory Coast native played in only four games for Toronto, as an ankle injury kept him out of the lineup for the better part of the last month.
“Olivier has decided that he wanted to be closer to his family in France,” said Toronto general manager Mo Johnston. “We wish him all the best, and thank him for his contribution to Toronto FC.”
Tebily began his pro career in France, playing for Niort (1993-98) and Chateauroux (1998-99) before signing with Sheffield United of the English Premiership.
He competed in seven matches with Sheffield in 1999, and later enjoyed a three-year stint with Celtic of the Scottish Premier League before joining Birmingham in 2002.
