Defender Robbie Russell is headed to Real Salt Lake in a transfer with Viborg FF of the Danish Super League.

Terms were not disclosed.

Russell, 29, was drafted 22nd overall by the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2001.

But he has spent the past seven seasons overseas, playing right back for Sogndal IL and Rosenborg BK of the Norwegian Premier League, and Viborg.

Russell is expected in the lineup next Monday, when Real Salt Lake hosts Toronto FC at Rice-Eccles Stadium (CBC Bold, CBCSports.ca, 9 p.m. ET).

Real Salt Lake (6-6-6) leads the Western Conference with 24 points.
