Former Birmingham City defender Olivier Tebily signed Thursday with Toronto FC.

Contract terms were not disclosed.

Tebily, 32, spent six seasons with the Blues before his pact expired Jan. 14.

"Another experienced player to the squad," Toronto FC head coach John Carver said of signing Tebily, who played for the Ivory Coast in the 2000 African Cup.

Tebily began his pro career in France, playing for Niort (1993-98) and Chateauroux (1998-99) before signing with Sheffield United of the English Premiership.

He competed in seven matches with Sheffield in 1999, and later enjoyed a three-year stint with Celtic of the Scottish Premier League.

Tebily signed with Birmingham on March 22, 2002.

"He has had a good career, especially at Celtic and Birmingham," Carver said. "He will definitely improve the team with his versatility, as he can play either in the centre or on the right in the back."
