Los Angeles Galaxy captain Landon Donovan was named Monday as Major League Soccer's player of the week.
Donovan scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Chivas USA.
The American forward found the back of the net in the eighth minute, converting on a miscue after Chivas goalkeeper Brad Guzan and defender Claudio Suarez collided inside the penalty area.
Donovan also helped set up Los Angeles's two other goals, working a perfect give-and-go with Canadian midfielder Kevin Harmse 10 minutes after scoring and feeding a perfect pass to Cobi Jones, who scored with 12 minutes left in regulation.
The win was the Galaxy's first of the campaign and moved them out of the Western Conference basement.
The Galaxy now have four points and are tied for third place in the conference standings with the Houston Dynamo and Colorado Rapids, two points ahead of Real Salt Lake.
This is the fifth time in his seven MLS seasons that Donovan has been named player of the week.
