Canada officially threw its hat into the ring to host the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Canada and five other nations — Australia, France, Germany, Peru and Switzerland — met the March 1 deadline to formally declare their interest in hosting the sixth edition of the tournament, FIFA announced Friday.

The six host candidates will soon receive a list of requirements from the sports governing body and will have to submit their definitive bids to FIFA by Aug. 1.
FIFA will announce the host country on Aug. 31. The next Women's World Cup is in China from Sept. 10-30.
Canada reached the semifinals of the 2005 World Cup in the U.S.
Canada is hosting the men's Under-20 World Cup this summer.
